Kicked from server: Steam authentication failed error

Hi,

I just finished building my new PC and installed Insurgency Sandstorm. Ever time I join a server, I get kicked pretty much instantly with the error message: "Kicked from server: Steam authentication failed" I have tried everything including;

  • Steam: flushed cache, reinstalled
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled game
  • Checked if files are corrupted (verified game integrity)
  • It's not my firewall (ran machine on DMZ, disabled firewall)
  • It's not any antivirus or security settings (none present but Windows Defender on test machine, disabled it)
  • Connection is fine (every other game, including others on Steam and using EAC work fine)

Nothing has solved the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can you try one of the steps below to see if that helps?

WORKAROUND#1:

  1. Close Steam.
  2. Navigate to Steam > bin and copy the steamservice.dll file.
  3. Navigate to Program Files (x86) > Common Files > Steam.
  4. Paste and replace the steamservice.dll file.
  5. Run Steam and test.

WORKAROUND#2:

  1. Close Steam.
  2. Open the Steam folder.
  3. Right click on the Steam.exe application > Properties.
  4. Click on the Compatibility tab.
  5. Check Run this program as an administrator and click OK.
  6. Run Steam and test.
