I've seen it a couple times. Not to the extent I think it's prevalent. My guess is that it is bot behavior for getting over obstacles that may otherwise get them stuck, sometimes they happen to do it on surfaces that may not require it.

This happens rarely when the bots know you are around a corner. They'll try to "jumpshot" you by jumping around the corner before shooting but they can't shoot in mid-air just like us (for balancing reasons). If you're quick enough you can kill them in mid-air. It's probably ill advised to do this in real life but nevertheless... Murphy's Law.
