Torridon88's Maps

@hazzard It's not quite ready for testing but I'll definitely let you know when it is. I want to fill out the whole map before opening it up for testing, then I can work on final details while people bring feedback to me. I should be at that point with a couple more sessions in the editor.

Sounds great! U just gotta love good mapmakers (Y) 🙂

Hi guys, I'd love to say I've been hard at work on the map but the truth is I've been suffering from Map Flu...at least that's what I'm calling it. As I got closer to finishing the map I completely burned out so I've been spending my time on anything but the map. Staying focused and concentrating on something creative like this is really hard work. It's really given me an insight into what game developers must go through when building a game. I've been working on this map for a month, these guys spends years on the same project. I don't know how they do it.

I decided to play the map for a while and found that a lot of the routes didn't play the way I'd intended. I've tested the map frequently but just small sections at a time. It was only after playing through the whole map that I realised how much work needed to be done revisiting the parts of the map I thought I'd finished. I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Anyway, I'll put my violin away. I finally motivated myself to get some work done on the map so I thought I'd share a few more screenshots.

Man, I perfectly know what you are talking about, but you have to realise one thing at this point:
Look at your screenshots. Then look at your hour counter on editor. These things will be wasted, if you abandon your project now. Take a break for a while, that is perfectly understandable and OK, but come back later and finish your work.
If you leave it now, you will never forgive yourself, if you finish it, you will be proud of yourself a lot.

By those pictures, your map looks very nice, so I hope for that proud option...

dude your not the only one i am also stuck at a point and after testing with friends a few times your never gonna be perfectly happy with the map ever .. you could spend years on it but your gonna get bored man .... finding that balance between progression and perfection is hard ... i have been playing other games and staying away from the game untill i find that creativity for the last bit 0_1516176463650_to finish.JPG

Awesome map! Good work dude! Love to play it if it's finished...

@sodoma Thanks man, there’s no way I’ll be abandoning this map. I pulled myself together and made some good progress on it this evening.

@shuffy Thanks bud. Yeah it’s a bummer right? Funnily enough my wife just decided to start playing games online. We’ve been together 8 years and she’s never touched a PC, now she’s pestering me to play with her every night so that might give me the break I need. Keep going with your map though, look how close you are to filling it out!

@doom Not sure if you were talking about my map or shuffy’s but mine isn’t ready yet, if you follow me or this topic on the forums you’ll get an update when it’s released.

Had a good session in the editor today and put the groundwork in for one of the last untouched areas. I've been putting it off because I knew it was going to take some serious cliff detailing. Now I've got the hard bit out of the way I get to do the fun stuff.

Finished the western lumber mill. Just the southern lumber mill and its approaches to finish and it'll be ready for testing.

Looks great! I can truly see the love to the detail!

Lookin’ forward to take a ride on that map …

@Dexter-Paris Thanks man, I’m trying to create a map that looks good as well as being fun to play. I hope it lives up to that ambition!

yeah you have to be a bit careful when building things (vehicles and maps). getting burned out can happen very fast. when i made maps for another game i had to take breaks every so often or it never would have gotten as far as it did. i will admit i never fully finished my best one made, but the tools back then were no where near as user friendly as the tools for for STMR. took a year just for the terrain with no objects. seriously though if you just are not feeling it then just stop and take a break. nice to see you are back at it again. very nice looking map and will be waiting to check it out when complete.

@8up-local Yeah I definitely started to hit a brick wall with this map, it’s funny how quickly you can lose interest in something.

Never mind, I’m back on it with a passion now and it’s looking great. I was in a car accident a few days ago and working on the map has been a great distraction from the whiplash. Funny how things work out!

@Torridon88
Oh no! Aside from the soft tissue injuries, are you okay?

@mexican_420 I’m good thanks! It wasn’t a serious accident, I was waiting at some traffic lights and a van ran into the back of me. I’ve just got a sore neck and a wounded car. I’m sure both can be easily fixed.

@Torridon88 finally a logging map with nice details. I‘m board of all the trail maps on this forum.this game gets transformed from a real good logging simulator to a bored american truck trail game which it was never supposed to be.

I really looking forward for the release of your map.

@alpscruiser this is why i try to get people to do more double duty maps. so many nice maps out there that could do both.

@Alpscruiser
@8up-local

My primary focus for this map is logging and exploring. Hauling loads, rescuing trucks, scouting out routes etc is where the fun is at for me. I’m aware lots of people play the game for different reasons though and I’m sure there’ll be something for most people in this map. There’s more than 90 Road overlays in the map and that’s not including trails and roads that doesn’t use them. There’s a good variety too, from narrow mountain trails to wide, muddy logging roads. You could complete every objective on the map without ever using the same route twice. I’ve also designed the terrain to allow you to leave the road and go cross country wherever you like.
