Should add more female characters(not a feminist)

Later .... much later, when the NWI guys have fixed all the problems and bugs and added a lot of new content like additional maps and gamemodes they could possibly get bored and then ... just then they might have the time to get new character models for female insurgent fighters. Here is my proposal for different looks :

alt text

This could be the suicide class ( Blue Bang Squad ) equipped with a detonating suicide vest

alt text

Here on the following picture is shown a squad of elite insurgent female fighters ( Codename : Black Squad ).
One of them carrying a black IED ( model handbag ) and another one carrying some dangerous black shoes ( model long range throw ) with one-hit-kill πŸ˜ƒ
( One-hit-kill because of the deadly smell by sweaty feet .. those shoes have been worn for weeks without washing feet in preperation for the deadly attacks )

Especially the one-hit-kill sniper sandals / shoes are very interesting for these elite fighters.
Watch the following video which was made by a hidden camera by one of our spies in a secret insurgent training camp ( showing an elite throw instructor ) :

πŸ˜ƒ ROFL !!!!

PS : This is the western smelly sneaker counterpart to the middle-eastern model
A special anti-smell-specialist defuses the danger outgoing from this deadly weapon ( after the defusing process the sneakers are complying with the Geneva conventions ) :

@zucchini Even World War 3, which just went into early access, is getting flak for planning to include female player models. The developers haven't said anything about it other than "Yeah, we'll probably have female characters at some point" and people are already calling for boycotts and shouting down The Farm 51 as SJW propagandists...

It's like Captain Price said. Include female characters and your game is leftist propaganda. Don't include female characters and your game is sexist. Damned if you do, damned if you don't, really.

Adding female insurgents would be nice. It makes for neat customization options.

However, I get the ISIS vs. Peshmerga vibes from this game when I play it. The Peshmerga have frontline women fighters (for those of us who like our authenticity), so adding female insurgents might mess that up. Also, I'm thinking that's probably why there are no western women in the options either. The game, as it is, does ring true (somewhat) to the current middle eastern conflict. It's a good balance between customization and authenticity.

That said I wouldn't mind more women in the game, but I also like the design choice the devs have made.

The game is basically portraying ISIS (Insurgents) and The Kurds/West (Security).

Let me know how many female fighters ISIS is using. I'll give you a hint, it's 0.

@xiddy The game is not specific in it's representations of "insurgents" for a reason. Honestly, I like to think the insurgents are not ISIS because those guys are assholes and I'd prefer not to play as any of them. There are plenty of examples from recent history of "security" vs "insurgent" actions that are far less morally clear. The game could easily be set in a Syria-like conflict with no clear sides, and then who knows what either team is?

Security Forces vs. Soldiers of a local Warlord maybe ?

@maa_bunny good point. I don't want to play as ISIS either. I really dislike them. That's why I think it'll be cool to add female insurgents. Really cement in the this isn't ISIS feel.

Just to toss my two cents in, I know Alex said on-stream that female Insurgents aren't currently planned as it doesn't really make any sense.

@quadsword well admittedly it is a FICTIONAL setting.

@snuffeldjuret umm It is a game...It really wouldn't hurt the immersion because I guarantee there are women out there that hate western ideals as much as men.

@tooth-decay Ok I'm gonna go ahead and comment on this because this happens to be a subject I happen to be I'm very familiar on. Your statement that the photo is propaganda: yeah. That's false, without question.

I can pretty confidently say that originally, this game was set in modern day Northern Syria (East of the Euphrates) in YPG (currently merged into the SDF) and ISIS contested area: here's why: it was about a Kurdish (possibly Yazidi) female fighter and American volunteer (yes there are foreign volunteers fighting ISIS).

And yes, there are indeed female fighters fighting against ISIS. In the YPG, female infantry are very common because the YPG is based on the ideology of Abdullah Γ–calan: one that encourages female equality to extents beyond that of Western countries in some cases. Females are so common that they have an all female fighting unit: the YPJ.

In addition to this, there are a variety of Christian militias (notably the Syriac Military Council) in Syria which also have their own female fighting units (Bethnahrain Women's Protection Forces). So the photo you referred to is NOT propaganda in any way whatsoever. Female fighters are very common in northern Syria, which I'm pretty certain the photo was taken. That or the photo could be in central Syria of a pro-assad female unit or militia, which is less common, but not unheard of because they are often Christians and Alawites.

On the other hand, yes, there are no female ISIS fighters or islamic insurgents in Syria (as in running around with AK's). So yeah, if they're going for realism that's probably not the best route; and personally I wouldn't like it. But saying there are no females, or even that females are rare where this game takes place and it's propaganda? yeah, unequivocally false, without question. And they might not say it now, but it's pretty clear where this game was intended to take place. It's obvious, down to the American SOF roles. Probably northeastern Syria, anywhere from east of the Euphrates to north west Iraq.

@dark1202 Kick-ass and well informed response, I love it.

And recent news from the other side of the Atlantic: the first woman just made through US Army Special Forces S&A and will move on to Green Beret training.

@trashbandicoot said in Should add more female characters(not a feminist):

Absolutely no female insurgents. That's kinda part of the reason we're fighting them in the first place? They literally use women as sex slaves.

DEFINITELY more options for females on the security force. The first female graduated ranger school maybe a month ago. It's only fitting. Why are there women local security and not female american security forces? I'm PRETTY sure the middle east isn't MORE progressive than us when it comes to allowing women in the military. What's that about?

Actually, in the case of who this game was originally based upon they are. YPG, PKK, Christian militias all have female fighting units, and have had for years. The KRG (Kurdish) government in Iraq has 30% female representation. Guess how much the US has? 19%. In Northeastern Syria/Rojava (where this game was/is theoretically based), 40% of all governing body members are required to be female. So yeah, if we're going to talk about empirical data, in military and government they are more progressive than us.

In fact, there are thousands more Syrian female fighters than there would be American security forces (best case scenario: 1 person in the entire game since we're talking "SOF").

Honestly, yea its a game and its fictional, but what makes insurgency so wonderful is that it brings the player as close to reality as is possible through a screen. The vast majority of the fanbase care about very minute accuracies of weapons and such, why wouldn't minute details of the general "middle eastern" conflicts this game is very obviously portraying be taken into account as well.

Just by playing the game you can obviously tell that veterans or people who were at least very involved in some way in our contemporary wars made it. It's not just a hardcore shooter, its an experience of modern infantry combat. It's supposed to scare the shit out of you. Especially after this last update, playing the game always comes with a heavy feeling. Even though its a game, the situations we play out are indeed very real. BF1 tried to apply some sort of reverence to soldiers at the start of the game, but insurgency doesn't even need a brutality of war blah blah statement at the opening of the game at all. Just playing makes you, as a character, feel very weak and vulnerable in the face of today's tools of death and destruction. Those of us not involved in the military or today's armed conflicts only see news clips or Hollywood movies which usually glorify or otherwise distort reality. Insurgency SS does such a good job of at least making the player aware of just how scary it all actually is, and it does it by being realistic.

I've gotten called out before for using the word "realistic" instead of "immersive", but I really do mean realistic. Everything the devs have done so far has been to bring the game as close to reality as they can (or so it seems at least). By ignoring reality and letting options for the sake of options interfere with attention to detail, Insurgency will fail to live up to what it has become.

Female players can always play as female characters on the security side. As many people have already gone over, this is realistic and quite common in today's mid-east conflicts. However, for the insurgents, there is a fundamental, dogmatic mandate for women to be subservient. In their eyes, a woman is too weak to fight. The game should reflect this reality.

Finally, I'd like to wrap up my argument with some words on "PC" and sexism. The lack of inclusion of female characters on the insurgent side is not sexist at all in my view. Rather, I find it to be a feminist statement in a way. By failing to include women on the insurgent side, reflecting the reality of the world, the game brings to light a social catastrophe which still exists... gender inequality. Instead of masking the oppression of women to audiences who don't know any better by implementing fictitious equality, perhaps the game will make people ask "why aren't there women insurgent options". Why not? Because there are still large swaths of the world and numerous people who view women as lesser. It makes people realize and stops them from forgetting an important issue. Including female characters on the insurgent side would make the whole issue of gender equality a nonissue and that should be much more dangerous to those concerned about equality than simply having equal options for the sake of everything being nice and tidy and the same.

Sure, it's a game. So let's add jet packs and lasers...
Can you guarantee? Do you have any evidence of female insurgents in combat roles?

Wow i dont understad why this is a issue , a lot of text wall trying to inject their political agenda , i dont live in a first world i dont need first world problems in the game and definitely i dont need politics. Because its my hobby its a place where i come to scape all this things that normies try to force us to believe. I dont need a soy beta male trying to teach me how unfair is the world because i dont give a damn about sexism , racism o whatever ism is in you mind, i come here to play. Like the rest of the normal people.

Yea, honestly this. If anything, this game is supposed to be presenting real-world problems to the sheltered 1st-worlders. Don't make this into BFV by pandering to the PC culture.

Good Lord this is getting out of hand. The amount of assumptions and presumptions getting tossed around is astounding.

Going to lock this thread as it isn't going anywhere constructive. Women are currently not planned for the Insurgent forces, and will be fighting with the Security team.
