The asteroid had originated from a planet that had long since lost it's life, it's core destroyed in an event of catastrophic proportions that had sent this lone chunk hurtling into a galaxy dark and foreboding, its inhabitants just a mere memory.

Who knows how long the massive chunk of rock had hurtled through the darkness of space, for none now stood who remembered its home planet. Now it floated on the rim of an asteroid field, feeling the baleful glare of the systems sun...

A shadow started to slide across the massive rock, until the surface was covered in darkness once more. A prow slowly slid past, the suns light glinting off the golden trim, the dark blue armour cutting through the darkness with the confidence of a predator.

Rank after rank of heavy guns lined the side of the white hull, each gun capable of turning a ship into scrap metal. Archaic architecture of an ancient heritage showed clearly the vessels allegiance, a proud vessel of the vast Imperium. And this was no small vessel for it was a king amongst kings, it was the one of the mgihty battleships of Battlefleet Koronus, The Haven of Defiance.

More shadows passed through the asteroid belt, the Haven's numerous escort vessels sweeping through the Asteroid Field in search of the elusive enemy that had struck their convoy and left no survivors. It had angered the Imperial Commanders that their convoy had been annihilated so close to their destination.

And so the fleet had been amassed and sent to search for the raiders, a threat that promised destruction and ruination to their prey...

The Predator laughed at the humour of it all. The prey were primitive, arrogant and foolish...

The shadow slipped away from the asteroid as the behemoth passed, the fleet continuing it's steady advance through the asteroid field. Time passed uneventfully, but for a moment when the suns light flickered.

The Haven of Defiance lay at the heart of her fleet, all of the fleet searching for the enemy hiding somewhere in the asteroid belt. Had the Admiral been a sensible man, then perhaps he may have avoided entering such a field in the first place. But led by an ego boosted by his fleet, his arrogance and his certainty of greatness he made a grave error.

An error he had but moments to reflect upon as the ships sensors detected the torpedoes incoming at high speed, already far too close to react to... The flare of light and ball of incandescent fury erupted violently as the ships plasma drives and warp engine detonated, the torpedoes tearing through the weak rear armour and destroying the battleship with contemptuous ease.

The entire fleet immediately went into disarray, all the captains trying to ascertain the threat immediately, many of them now discovering that the asteroid belt had been far from vacant, as what had previously been declared empty was suddenly revealed to be the deadly opposite...

The true Predator laughed as the monkeigh fell one by one, their vessels ill suited to combat within the asteroid field. His force was only small, but it mattered not, for their foolishness had killed them already. He took savage glee in directing his on another attack run, his torpedoes scouring holes through the Imperial Cruiser he had selected and turning it into little more than a drifting hulk. The Imperials would have called his vessel weak, stating it's power was insufficient and it's armour impossible. The predator knew better. And perhaps, if any of the monkeigh survived... they might too...
