necrons really need to control the ship facing when using their drive like you can with MWJ. you can only do very basic maneuvers with the current implementation (jump towards an enemy or hope you have a good turn rate). this is not working well with their unique traits (with 100% accurate mid-range weapons and hull regeneration, you want to be precise with the engagement range and you want to be able to disengage at will).

@fosil It’s not a MWJ, and it’s not meant to be used in the same way.

It’s pure mobility (instant turning+distance) as opposed to tactical posturing.

I vastly prefer the TT version, its hard to catch everything now despite being the most agile faction in lore and also the fastest in TT. The teleport is nice but akward as it is.

heard it makes you face the direction you are heading before jump
so if you right click behind your ship then inertiales drive forward you will have done a 180 coming out
tho personally i would like to be able to determine facing similar to mwj, its far more convenient

no, you always face outwards from the point you jumped from, like as if you turned and moved to your new direction. there are not many situations during a fight, where your jump gives you an advantage compared to your previous position.

necrons don't have high energy turns, so jumping out of enemy firing arcs means often enough that you are out of position too. it only works reliably if you want to start a fight or if you want to run away with a faster ship. too bad that a LC admiral using mass recall instead can do both much better.

@fosil The Drive is meant to off-set the lack of high energy turn and raw speed, which is why I say it’s different and should be treated differently.

It’s for initiating fights and chasing down difficult to catch enemies, not posturing during a fight.

You can chose the direction, it will come out facing the direction of the pathing you've set for it.

do you mean this: "you always face outwards from the point you jumped from, like as if you turned and moved to your new direction." or what?

My necron ships always face the direction I jump in, regardless of where I have clicked to tell them to go.

@caliger_reborn I understand the intention, but personally I don't think it plays well. necrons are supposed to have super fast, super maneuverable and super tough ships. instead their base speed is slower than some chaos ships in the same weight class and their turn rate is the same as the general base line. I don't think the current 90sec CD drive compensates enough for having no maneuver bar.

Agreed. They used to be able to run down Eldar escorts with tomb ships, now anyone who wants to can just leave after they jump in and kite them forever. Turn rate definitely needs to be fixed if they want to keep the current ID setup. I would really prefer the TT/lore version though.
