Things I hope are fixed in the release version

Been playing the game a bit and have a few thoughts on some features/ lack of features and so on.

First most of the factions don't feel Fleshed out, simply put with the exception of the Imperium, Chaos, and Nids all of the other factions feel lacking. Most hard hit are the Necrons and Mechanicus. Consider merging the Tau fleets too with the Battleships from the merchant fleet changed to grand cruisers cause right now they are under-powered. The problem of fleet diversity is compounded by the next problem. It should not be hard to add new ships to the other factions, if you don't have ones that fit make some up.

Lack of diversity. Too many ships in the game are to alike. For the most part except for weapons all ships in a class of a given race have the exact same stats. Please devs change this up I want there to be more to choosing a a ship than its weapons. Again this problem is made worse by the next issue.

Lack of customization. Frankly the one part of the last game I liked most was the ability to customize your ships their captain skills and upgrades. Now both the skills and upgrades are fleetwide and this is a big mistake. You really have to have the ability to synergize the skills and upgrades with the ship or else all we are going to see in multiplayer fleets composed of the exact same ship class. Also the sub-factions have absolutely no effect on gameplay and that was something that was promised in the deb blogs so it better effect not just some modifiers but real differences like upgrade and skills choices and even ship classes available.

As you can see from the first three items in this post that a lot of the problems compound each other and unfortunately will kill the game if this is the release state. Frankly I'm returning my copy if these issues aren't fixed. Given the game was delayed 4 months I'm rather disappointed at the readiness of the game, this is what I expected the ALPHA to look like not the Beta with a month to go to release.

Below are some minor issues that I have discovered.
Eldar don't use lascannons, their called brightlances
Dark Eldar call their lances Darklances (did C.S. Goto write this?
the middle mouse to turn doesn't work and re0keying it doesn't work

Sub factions do feel redundant and are not unique or even skinned. But i do like the stream lined costumization. Its healthier for multi player. Too much costumization is what killed the last game.

About the variety in ships im afraid thats how its always been for BFGA and thats how it is in the lore. The ships by class all performed roughly the same.

The devs got to be really careful with how they proceed especially with things like balance. I think they are doing an ok job. And have made some nice compromises.

The combat in this game feels miles better than the mess that was BFGA 1.

doesn't mean they can change things for the PC game given BFG tabletop only got a short run before being abandoned. As for customization, I don't believe that is what killed the last game, it was balance and the stupid ship damaged after game that I believed killed it.

Personally I think it is key to the game to be able to customise each ship - it provides more tactical variation and ability to specialise ships.

I can see why this would be detrimental to multiplayer.

@lucinator Balance in BFGA is influenced by a whole lot of things. But the gross amount of upgrades and abilities made the games multiplayer jump from one extreme to the next.

Not saying it was the sole reason why BFGA got killed off. It was alot of things that"compounded" together that killed it.

I do think the game needs to be carefully fleshed out. But im strongly against throwing options and insane amounts of variables into the game just for shits and giggles and because it gives the player a sense that all these options actually matter when really only half of them would ultimatly matter.

I definately agree certain fleets need more fleshing out. The druhkari got a double digit ship count boost, so 5-6 shouldn't be out of the question for other factions. Unless somethings changed since the last beta (i'm too busy today to play but can post from location on phone) the Necrons only got one new ship and two lesser known ships (reaper/kopesh) that were already cannon over bfg when the druhkari got I think 16 new ships.

A Necron carrier or two would be nice.

@caliger_reborn That was my one hope for my game. Their absence makes me weep.

Launch bays are way too expensive for the limited benefit they provide right now. They're good for probes, countering enemies probing you, and nuking isolated enemy ships that can't run silent. Sadly good players wont have line ships way out on their own, and escorts/LCs will run silent to evade your bombers. Even if you do somehow find an isolated enemy ship, brace for impact does a pretty good job shooting down incoming ordinance with just 1 ship.

Carriers offer massive utility for Burst damage, Crew damage and probe-like spotting; and if you use them right they have infinite charges.
They are far from limited.

That being said, some factions do suffer from the price increase, and would offer reducing the price for some IN and DE ships in particular. But Chaos really don’t need the price reduction.

I've just braced the ship in front / rotated targeted ships behind others and never taken ordinance damage in MP so far.

@jamodon Nvm I just noticed they moved the turret buff from Lock On to Brace. Well Ordance is still useless then.

Still, make a point of always bringing one for the spotting.
I just really really don’t want Styx’s as cheap as Line Cruisers again.

Having 1 hanger on a ship is great, free probe. Having 4 makes it cost an unusably huge amount.

counterpoint: chaos carrier builds with slaneesh promise. let me stun your ships in a cone for 10 seconds, and let me drop 18 hangars worth of bombers on your stuff. CD 180 sec.

And when Chaos could bring 7 Styx Heavy Cruisers it was a very special form of cancer. Which is why I say it’s ok to buff some factions, but not Chaos.

So then remove upgrades for the multiplayer crowd. I don't get why singleplayers should suffer to please the multiplayer crowd.

Funny you say that, because this feels miles behind the first BFG to me. Like @Lucinator, I'll be refunding my copy with the way the game is now.

@romeo seconded... unless i get a sandbox campaign where i can progress the extra races and the SP feels miles different then this MP vanilla nonsense ill be refunding day 1.

Campaign mode does have a whole tree of upgrades.

Even with a tree of upgrades I still don't like how little some races are fleshed out and being only a month and a half from release scares me.

I wish the devs would comment in the forums and let us know what they are thinking
