Chaos and Imperial factions Lance Arty (prow lances)

I find it to be an incredibly underwhelming weapon system. When i look at the prow lance i imagine "sniper weapon" But it doesnt feel that way.

I think if it had much better Alpha strike it would see more use. But in return narrow its firing cone to 45° to make it weaker in CQC but good for sniping or chasing targets down.

Prow lances will always be bad because most Chaos ships don t have other weapons on front arc.
Even if the prow lances were doubled damages from now, most dps are on side so you can t use your full power on same target. That the reason Murder and Hades are bad ships by design. IN don t have this problem cause most ships have torp front so you can unload then use side weapons.
Only dauntless have to choose between 3 dps front lance and 4 dps macro sides

@beernchips thats why i think prow lances need a rework. Maybe becoming a skill shot.

Solution is way more simple than a rework. Just bump up dmg x10 and cd x10 and then you can down shield with macro and maneuvers to fire the lance artillery. (numbers
just there for the example) and then go back to macro for 20/30 secs.

Would reward skill and effort.

The more patch we get the more it seems like Tindalos has no clue how to balance things. This one seems terrible with useless lance arti, undocumented change to carriers cd making them useless. No follow up on boarding despite the new issues. Most BS needs more than a simple cost change to be competitive.

Idk how the many cost changes are affecting the game but i’m not sure I want to spend the time to figure. I feel like we just go from one imbalance to a different one without improvements. Is it just me?

Maybe we just accept that prow weapons on non-Eldar factions aren't a main damage source for those ships? I know the Chaos players are just freaking out right now but c'mon people. Grab a beer and chill out for a sec. Prow weapons are mostly accessories that are ok to hunt down escorts with when they're too fast to broadside. They're not game-changing weapons. I consider the buff on them to be mostly a "neat" addition.

The game is clearly going in a positive direction and we already know the roadmap. I'm not pretending that everything is roses, but even I'm pretty tired of the "I hate [some specific change listed here] I QUIT" threats. Balance is just going to take time, like every other game.

@admiralatlas All the other factions that have prow weaponry have a strong ability or good stats applied to them where chaos lance arty gets the finger. And actually there are quite a few factions with really good prow weapons namely those that utilize torps, novas and even mega cannons. You shoot at capitals with them.... Not escorts... This isnt something we should just accept It applies to only 2 ships yes. But the problem is nobody is ever going to pick a hades or a murder when they can use a carnage or a slaughter and as chaos you really arent the chaser in most scenarios. And lance artillery doesnt do enough damage to kill a escort.

You get what im sayin? Why feature these ships when there is nothing going for them. Thats why chaos prow lance weapons should at the very least become a alpha strike weapon.

I second that Tindalos seems to have no clue what the hell to do at the moment.

Prow lances are the single most useless weapon system to Chaos, by the very own nature of the whole faction.

Chaos prefers to supply a long ranged, somewhat low but consistent dps and strong carriers ordnance while kiting their opponents.

Well guess what, the standard lances are now intentionally kept crappy, carriers have been nerfed to nothing, and the only buff they get is to their most useless weaponry.

Meanwhile Necrons are getting buffed and improved with every patch. With most of those buffs being done in the traditional Tindalos fashion, that is by nerf-hammering everything that may threaten them.

Biggest problems aren’t related to Chaos. Having internal imbalance is not a big deal it’s easy to fix. But general game mechanics like boarding / ordnance / close vs long range dps / and some others are in a bad spot. The worse is I don’t see 1v1 balance improving at all for the last 3 patch. This lance buff is just another clue they don’t seems to have clear idea of what they need to do. (went back with Asuryani torps too)

On the big picture, i think tindalos have a view of what they wants. Lances crit increase but not damage + carriers nerf + ram damage reductipn tend to show that they are avoiding all builds relying on full damages not coming from macro. Torps are untouched allthough so probably next nerfs

3dps prow lance with 90 degree firing arc vs 6dps turret macros (half of them tracking missiles) with 270 degree firing arc. what do you obviously want for macro broadside boats?

What I see so far, since beta, is just back and forth changes, on ordnances, lances, Eldar torp numbers, ramming damage, and some others stuff. We go from one extreme to another, Nids went back from op in the beta to garbage, and then op again with patch two and ordnaces and now probably useless again since their shooty ships are hot garbage.

Lances dps was nerf to oblivion with release, and now they buff crit but it's doesn't solve the dps issue and buff from stance are messy etc It's seems like random changes, like a fucking mess more than a clear plan to achieve a clear goal / state of balance.

And the fact the became lazy and don't release patch with numbers and explanations anymore makes it even worse. Cherry on the cake majors changes are not in the patchnote anymore.... (did I talk about breaking stance selection or deployement zone?)

It's not a question of balancing takes time it's a question of did things improve at all since release? If I look at balance and patchnote / communication / bugs. I feel like the quality goes down, and the coop doesn't seems to work either so vOv

@canardnoir
It's going south much like it did with the first game.
Great communication in beta, post-release consistently worse and worse decisions as well as less and less communication, until it all freezes to hell.

I wouldn't be surprised if half of the dev team was by now sent to work on BfGA 3.

@ahriman And you know whats sad. People will forget about what happened and hail BFGA 3 as the next best thing since sliced bread...
If they keep making worse decisions they wont get a dime from me anymore.

Same for me. I was already a little leery of supporting them after the BS they pulled with stringing the community along for a year on the first game. But game two has completely cemented my opinion of them here: I will not buy the third game until after it's completely released, and I've researched it extensively, because I have no desire to waste my money a second time.

@romeo yeah. I was pretty pessimistic about this game when it first was announced. Pushed my fair share of hate for days. But as a 40k fan. I still wanted to try and support the game.

I hope tindalos gets their act together.

Well everyone is ranting about the bays change but the previous boarding rework and the change to caps depending of tonnage are pretty consistent.

On the overall the game is more enjoyable to play than at release.

Still have to wait what the next moves will be although and their is still a lot of work to do

@beernchips I agree. The changes done to boarding were good IMO. I do feel that the carrier change was not needed. Factions that favor carriers are hit the hardest.
