Could someone please explain to me where and how I open caskets? I picked on up in my first fight, and it's in my stash, but it will only let me add it to a characters inventory not open it. Do I have to open it during a fight?

Go into the Shop, your stash on the left has a section for caskets. Hit the button on them there which opens/displays them and puts the items into your stash.
