Breakthrough Mission

I'd like to see a re-work of the breakthrough mission. Against the AI I stay away from the station and wait for the enemy fleet to come to their death. One of the stations might end up getting trashed by secondary fire, but not really on purpose.

I think the option to destroy the stations and race to the board edge should remain a victory condition.

Re-Work Options:

  1. Upgrade the the Stations to something a little more substantial. Force us to deal with the stations even if we've defeated the enemy fleet.

  2. Upgrade the AI to not leave the support range of the stations. First one falls, they fallback to the next or whichever is getting attacked.

***Do you guys think the mission is fine?

What other changes might make the mission more interesting?***

1 might be a bit boring in pvp?
same as station assault, if your fleet is dead the only thing you can really do is send out bombers every 45 seconds until your escorts come out of cooldown
if you only have the little stations there is very little to do

but they will be mostly focusing on cruiser clash in 2
not even sure the mission will still exist

then there are factions for who its easier to do the station killing, for example eldar bombers fleets kill stations and run a lot quicker then they kill an entire enemy fleet

but better ai for missions like that would be good

Make it more like the tabletop version. Make it asymmetrical, you aren't on an even keel with your enemy, your job is to break through the line and reach the other side, not combat them (so remove the mandatory defence platforms, make them optional.)

You are outnumbered.
You are outgunned.
You're not supposed to fight.
You're supposed to escape.

I like that.

Could do the Breakout mission from 40k. Put defender in the center. Half the Attacker's fleet. Attacker deploys each half on each side of the map. Defender must escape.

Award victory points to the defender for each ship that escapes. Award points to the attacker for each ship denied. Can give the attacker more points if the mission proves imbalanced in favor of the defender.

Exactly!

if persistent fleets are no longer a thing that sounds like a fun game
if persistent fleets are still a thing that sounds like hell
some ship losses are guaranteed in that mission
its a combo transport and assassination mission, fun, but hell to balance and if you need those ships for the next mission a lot of that fun will disappear quickly

damn these half assed discussions! we need more info!

@ashardalon Persitent fleets were always my biggest gripe with multiplayer (after balance of course). The idea of persistent fleets really, really did not mesh well with 40k space combat, with half you fleet dead even with a victory meaning next match you were doomed. So many times I had to throw a bunch of light cruisers against battleships because certain unbalanced factions massacred my entire fleet and left me with nothing else to send. I really hope that feature has been removed.

@nemesor-xanxas
definitely, and i think its removed
tho not 100% on that

and when not pvp, but imagine that mission in the campaign, where im pretty sure persistence is still a thing, and even a good thing
might be good idea if you run away from a fight forcing a mission like that
but a mission like that with lvled ships you need for the campaign later just randomly thrown in ...

again, sounds like a fun mission
but how will it fit
