Vampyr: Difficulty modes update out next week on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC

DONTNOD Entertainment’s narrative-driven action-RPG Vampyr continues to receive ongoing support, as the difficulty modes update releases next week, September 26, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Tuesday’s update includes two new game difficulty modes which add further replayability for existing players, and more options for those who haven’t yet sunk their teeth into this dark adventure through 1918 London.

Story Mode de-emphasizes combat, placing a greater focus on narrative so players can enjoy Dr. Jonathan Reid’s journey with less challenging gameplay. On the other end of the scale, Hard Mode makes combat much more difficult. Players will receive less experience from killing enemies too, forcing them to rely even more on embracing citizens to grow in power. Upon starting a new game, players will be given the option to choose from these two new modes or a third ‘Normal Mode’ if they wish to play the original Vampyr experience.

In addition to the new difficulty modes, the upcoming update introduces a host of optimization tweaks and fixes. Nvidia Ansel will also be made available for PC, which allows players to capture beautiful in-game screenshots, viewing and sharing them in 3D on mobile phone, PC or VR Headset. Walk the path of madness in Call of Cthulhu’s latest gameplay trailer!

Call of Cthulhu, the official videogame adaptation of Chaosium’s tabletop RPG, will release October 30 on PlayStation 4, XBOX One and PC. Today, we invite players to tread further down the path of madness in this new Gameplay Trailer, as the Darkwater investigation begins to spiral out of control in the midst of unsettling conspiracies, bizarre cults and even the Old Ones themselves.

In Private Investigator Edward Pierce's quest to unveil the truth, players will need to rely on a variety of upgradeable Skills to escape the clutches of madness and death. The Spot Hidden and Investigation skill paths let players uncover more clues and draw more meaningful conclusions, unlocking more topics to question in dialogues. Convincing the distrustful locals of Darkwater to reveal what they know will require proficiency in Eloquence and Psychology. Pierce's Strength skill may also come in handy for when brute force is necessary, or to intimidate impressionable people into offering whatever they’re hiding. Expertise in Medicine and Occultism, improved only through discovering unique books and artifacts throughout the investigation, may grant additional insight – but knowledge can be a curse in Call of Cthulhu. The more aware Pierce is made of the horrors that dwell beyond the fabrics of reality, the more he will fall to insanity, impeding his ability to draw logical conclusions.

Pierce is but a mortal man, with few allies in a remote, unfriendly environment. Whether outnumbered by mortal adversaries or facing foes whose mere existence is beyond human comprehension, offering physical resistance is usually not an option. Making the most of Pierce’s extensive set of skills, along with subterfuge and stealth, is paramount… though escaping the gaze of the Great Dreamer may ultimately prove futile.

Call of Cthulhu releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on October 30. Digital and retail preorders are available on PC and consoles.

Fear the Wolves Early Access update brings fresh content, gameplay tweaks and performance optimization

We are deploying today a new update for their Battle Royale FPS Fear the Wolves, now available in Steam Early Access. Fear the Wolves drops players, in squads or as lone wolves, into the oppressive environments of a radiation-ravaged Chernobyl. The classic Battle Royale mode forces them to fight to be the last man standing.

From the launch of the early access, Vostok Games has been looking after the feedback from the community which has allowed the team to roll out multiple updates and improvements - but that was only a start, as dev team continues improving their game on a regular basis along the Early Access period. Today’s update is first dedicated to performance optimization – many players should see a significant improvement during their gameplay sessions, while the developers continue working hard to make sure Fear the Wolves runs smoothly and reaches higher performance on all configs as the Early Access goes on.

Maps have also received significant care, with more landmarks and topography tweaks, not only strengthening even more the immersion into the dark Chernobyl atmosphere, but also bringing more intensity and challenge during the entire gameplay session, as well as offering a better overall balancing (loot repartition, weapons…) - either games are launched with high or lower number of players.

More additions like new languages available, queuing for new game while being in spectator mode, improved visuals, and more content will complete this new update. Full list and details about this update are available below

We've been condensing our models and creating new LODs to improve performance. Optimization is the top priority, and this will always be worked on throughout Early Access and even post-launch.

Kill-hungry players will be pleased to know that player and wolf kills are added to the rewards at the end of each match. More difficult kills like headshots, vehicle kills, grenade kills, and melee kills are also rewarded with bonus points.

Spectator Matchmaking - You can queue for the next game while spectating

10 Additional Languages – French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Hungarian and Turkish

You can now change these directly in game.

Improved visuals - Updated anomaly effects, weather effects, and a variety of new shooting VFX

Map Updates
Several new points of interests have been added to the map, including complex industrial and urban settings. These dense and complex multi-storied buildings have loot on all levels so be careful and thorough!

  • The Fort 17 pistol will now always have a magazine present inside the gun when seen in 3rd person.
  • Grass should no longer be growing in the air.
  • Various other tweaks and fixes.

Quality of life

  • Toggle for movement keys - ADS, Crouch, Walk, Sprint, Hold Breathe
  • Ammo is removed for dropped weapon.
  • Increased map precision.
  • Compass – By popular demand!
  • Evacuation messages were removed, to cause players to pay more attention to when the chopper was arriving.

And much more – Additional sound effects, improved screen effects, fixed overlap between likes and FPS/Ping when turned on, Squad radiation status display

Welcome back to our Roots of Innocence series of articles, where we’re unveiling more details and info about the making of A Plague Tale: Innocence, Asobo Studio’s upcoming adventure game, coming 2019 to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is set in a plagued, medieval French Kingdom. Fear, war and disease generate violence. With no scientific means to fight the disaster, the people are defenseless.

In order to ensure our game is consistent as possible within the period, we’ve committed ourselves to heavy research and the analysis of many historical texts. One thing that has struck us throughout this research, is unveiling the sadness that underlay much of the Middle Ages. Like many fairy tales and bloody legends before, we could clearly see one main topic: a tumultuous Europe.

As you’ve seen in the 16-minute gameplay video released during Gamescom, 1349 was a war-filled year, which strongly inspired us during each step of development. Every element in the game reflects, as much as possible, this dramatic period. Architecture, siege engines, weapons, armor - everything has been researched down to the smallest details to offer players fantastic immersion within this historical period.

Sebastien Renard, our Lead Narrative Designer shared with us his memories of the beginning of this project, and the struggle the team faced in being as consistent and coherent as possible. “The team initially started work on a slingshot animation before realizing that Amicia would have to wield a sling crafted from materials such as linen, wool, hemp and leather. The slingshot was actually only invented in the 19th century, following advances in chemistry and the creation of rubber.”

Continuing this dedication to the historical setting, we also find it important to clarify the famous “trebuchet” that appears in the Gamescom demo. This siege weapon is actually what’s known as a “Couillard” – this is a smaller version which is easier to trigger by a smaller, less strong person, which is why our protagonists are able to use it.

“Amicia and Hugo are children,” explains Kevin Choteau, our Lead Game Designer here at Asobo. “This means that in every environment, we need to make sure all their actions are actually doable for children. The game world has to be coherent for the players to believe the story and setting we create”.

Dear community,

Today we are announcing the delay of Insurgency: Sandstorm from its originally planned release date on September 18th 2018 for Windows PC. The game will now be releasing for Windows PC on December 12th 2018, and the Pre-order Beta will continue until the release of the game.

This was one of the hardest decisions our team has ever had to make and not one taken lightly. However, we feel it is in the best interest of the game and our community to spend more time working to ensure we deliver the best possible experience.

During Pre-order Beta 2 thousands of players took to the game and gave us great feedback on dozens of topics. Our small, but highly dedicated team has been working around the clock to respond to and address as much feedback as possible; releasing two hotfixes over the first weekend and a significant patch last Thursday. We’ve already seen your positive feedback, as our team have started to address priority areas such as performance, hit registration, and player movement.

Despite the game’s improvement, we are acutely aware that not all of you are having the ideal experience we want to deliver. By extending the beta and moving our launch date to December, the additional time will allow us to make significant improvements to the game with continued input from you. The additional time allows us to target a lower minimum system requirement, address more bugs, work on overall polish, gather additional feedback from the community to refine gameplay, and ensure that highly requested community features which may otherwise have had to be added post launch (such as community servers and custom games) are ready for day 1.

The major goals we aim to achieve with this extra time are as follows:

  • Upgrade to Unreal Engine 4.20 and continue optimizing
  • Improve the character models, textures, and animations in the game
  • Improve the “scoped” experience for both high and low-quality scope settings
  • Improve the level visuals, gameplay and optimization
  • Add more cosmetic item variations and a new forearm tattoo cosmetic type which can also be seen in first person
  • Expand in-game server options to include a server browser, community-run server support, and a custom games system allowing users to specially configure games hosted by our server infrastructure.
  • Refine the game to the point it has far less bugs, glitches, visual inconsistencies and other issues.

We appreciate that these improvements may mean you have to wait a little longer; however we feel it is important that we deliver a game that lives up to your high expectations and that Sandstorm can be deemed a true successor to Insurgency. Those of you who have been supporting us during the Pre-order Beta tests will be able to continue playing until the release of the game, and we look forward to more of your feedback.

The pre-order discount will be extended until the new release date and we will continue to grant pre-purchasers instant access to the ongoing beta along with the 10% pre-order discount. The additional 10% loyalty discount for owners of the original Insurgency will continue to run until the end of March 2019.

We thank all of you for your passion and support, and look forward to continuing to test with you over the coming weeks ahead of our launch in December.
