@guacamole I also heard another reason, it's hard to control gasses in open, gust of wind - and you have crying civilians all over the place. Not good for the press. Also riot control and warfare are two different things.

But I know too little about it, so...

I am still pretty sure that in this imaginary universe chemical weapons are still banned for use during wars, and that security is on the "Good guys" team. I think that insurgents need to get more gasses and other goodies to counter two helicopters. That will be more believable.

so it is normal mode, just the game won't tell you were the caches are?

It would be so cool.

@amurka said in Gunships and Minigun supports are bad and we should feel bad.:

I know I have no friends in this thread, but perhaps we could come up with alternatives together? (due to the unlikelyness of supports ever being removed). Can anyone think up a support option that might give the insurgents the same level of area denial, making the Security fear to go outside for more than a few seconds?

But you do have friends here 🙂

I think it's unfair that the most powerful support options which are the gunship and minigun are only available to the security side.

@Qarisma from what I understand, this game represents "asymmetrical warfare", so it should be a bit unfair here and there, but I agree that two helicopters vs no helicopters is a bit too much.

So, huge swarm of IED-drones like 10-20 of them - good alternative. Its quite scary I think. Buzz of doom. And it still can be countered by enemy team.

I also think the IED drones need a full re-work...to be piloted by the Observer. They would be so much more SCARY and lethal if piloted by an actual player, instead of by that dumb AI

Amen to that. Or to add a IED drone to a demolition class Insurgent. That would be cool.

There was a guy somewhere on this forum, who was suggesting lowering speed while you turn. Seems like a good Idea. Can't find his video-explanation though. Maybe someone has a link?

So this old mammoth is more "accurate" than a modern "sniper rifle" as you call it.

I never made the claim that semi autos were more accurate than bolt actions. I simply said that they were more versatile, doing better in more combat scenarious, rather than only excelling at long ranges.

You seem to jump from real life to the game mechanics and back a lot. One moment you say, that suppressors are useless on machine guns and make them useless in general so they have to be removed from a GAME cause of that, and when someone points your attention on your mistakes by providing proof, that suppressors actually work - you either try to eel your way out of it by saying that they are either idiots and have no proof, or say something like "We are speaking about a game here, no one will be shooting in short bursts in a game duh"

In this topic - you said, that Remington 700 variants are outdated crap and will be replaced by a DMR rifle which is a superior gun to the Remington 700 variants IN THE US ARMY (real life here) So I try to show people (and you) that ARMY is not replacing bolt action rifles and I tried to explain why bolt action rifles will not be replaced by semi auto rifles in near future by mentioning difference in their purpose and accuracy. And then you follow up with this:

I'm not even really sure why you're arguing for bolt actions being better at range, since in this game no firefights of more than 300m are even possible, and the average firefight is usually 20-50m. You seem to have trouble keeping things relevant.

Really? You seem to have trouble participating in constructive dialogue. 😕
(Sure it might be my fault, after all too many grammar errors make it hard to read. Google translated texts are pain in the arse right?)

Why are you even bringing up Marksmanship contests?

Because they show tendency of bolt action rifles being more accurate at long ranges, and I think that @Freddy-M can say how much truth there is to it. I hope, that I am not completely wrong.

P.S. @freddy-m, I m sorry. I will be silent from now on here, unless it involves marksmen and rifles. Magic of editing.

@kean_1 Oh really? The M24 is still being used by the Army? lol ok, I mean that's technically correct (if you count a modified and upgraded M24 as still being an "M24"... Here's some information I had to provide to another guy who was arguing the same shit you are. The Army, (like almost every other fighting force on the planet) has been looking to phase out its bolt action snipers with semi-auto snipers that excel in far more varied situations.

The M24 is horribly outdated and almost never used. It's decades out of date.

Well, army is not the only force that uses weapons. And in game we are, after all, a security force, not US military.

... Here's some information I had to provide to another guy who was arguing the same shit you are.

Bolt action rifles are still more superior to semi-auto at long ranges and can use wider range of loads. At least some of them.
And that part about replacing stuff in army - it does not work like that. They may be wanting to replace something, but "want","can" and "will" are different things.
"The Army, (like almost every other fighting force on the planet) has been looking to phase out its bolt action snipers with semi-auto snipers that excel in far more varied situations" since the WWII but it did not work out so far. Unlucky heh?

Every Job has a proper tool. Show me a guy at a long range contest(and Im speaking about 800+ meters), for example, who professionally shoots with a semi-auto rifle. You ll have a hard time searching for such a man. Reason - semi auto "sniper rifles" are not sniper rifles at all. They are called DMR (designated marksman rifle) trying to be mobile and accurate at same time, but in the end its just a secondary weapon in a sniper pair and a support weapon in a squad.

So back to the m24(variants) replacement rifle:
(Lol, if you ll search it in google it says DMR all over it.)

-"The G28 is designed to provide accuracy of 1.5 MOA." (from your article)

Btw basic version of this rifle(HK417) is in service since 2005 in Germany, so its not that new.

-M24. According to Remington Arms each rifle is tested to meet (and typically exceeds) the requirement to fire ≤ 1 MOA (less than a 2-inch shot group at 200 yards) before being released for fielding. (from wiki)

So this old mammoth is more "accurate" than a modern "sniper rifle" as you call it.

In March 2018, the Army announced that a version of the G28/M110A1 would be issued to infantry squads as the service's standard Squad Designated Marksman Rifle (SDMR). Issuing a 7.62 mm SDMR is meant to increase individual squads' ability to defeat enemy body armor that standard 5.56 mm rounds cannot penetrate.[12] The M110A1-based rifle will replace the M14 EBR(its not replacing m24 variants), in use by the Army since 2009, but because it was based on an operational needs statement it had to be turned in by units at the end of a combat deployment. Unlike the sniper configuration, the marksman version is fitted with a simpler rifle optic instead of a telescopic sight to make quick adjustments between 0-600 meters, and it fires M80A1 Enhanced Performance Rounds rather than sniper rounds; it will be fielded with a suppressor to make the marksman less identifiable with louder 7.62 mm rounds. Roughly 6,000 are planned to be fielded with one per squad in infantry, engineer and scout formations starting in late 2018. (wiki)

So, you say, that rifle(g28/m110 variants), which complements bolt action rifle(m24 variants) in sniper pair, as a support weapon for the sniper pair, is supposed to replace the main sniper rifle(with potentially more punch and higher accuracy)?

Well that is just dumb at this moment in time. And bolt action rifle will not be replaced until semi auto will start achieving same long range accuracy results.

P.S. Judging your google skills and common sense in general, I decided to tell you, that MOA is not a bird in this case.

@jigsaw77 Maybe. I am not so good at following their goals. Didnt know they abandoned console port. But i think that, maybe, most people avoid competitive mode cause all the progress is going to get wiped at release and no one cares about it too much?

I am not completely sure, but I think it will happen when the game will be released.
